Coaching is “a professional relationship that helps people produce results” by bridging “the gap between where they are now and where they want to be.” (Wise 2010)

Why is coaching an innovative and effective method for motivating individuals, and how does it help them focus on achieving meaningful goals?

Coaching is “a process of reflection through dialogue” that builds self-awareness to make the changes individuals want.

Coaching is a unique relationship based on confidentiality, mutual respect, and open communication. Its goal is to empower clients to explore their challenges and to make their own decisions. Clients gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their behaviours and the journey of self-discovery supports individuals to understand that their choices are right for them.

Other forms of therapy, such as psychiatry, psychology, and counselling, primarily focus on healing the past. In contrast, coaching is centered on improving the present, exploring opportunities, and building a better future.

Coaching does not require resolving past issues for the client to make progress. However, a skilled coach may use details shared by the client about their past to help clarify their current situation.

Coaching focuses on the future while acknowledging the present realities. It helps individuals unlock their potential and enhance their performance.

According to Jarosz, life coaches do not perceive their clients as though they need to be “fixed” – instead, they focus on future outcomes rather than past issues. (Jarosz, 2022)
